4 Reasons Why Orgasms are Good for Women’s Health!

It’s no secret that having an orgasm can have health benefits – who doesn’t feel lighter, happier and genuinely better after rubbing one out (or having someone handle it for you)? But it’s more than just an endorphin rush and fresh-faced flush that makes an orgasm a day keep the doctor away.

Say Bye-Bye to the BluesThe endorphin rush that follows an O-face not only gives you a boost of energy and joy, but it also helps flush out cortisol, a hormone commonly linked to stress. Cortisol can cause inflammation in the body and give you that heavy, weighed-down feeling that comes along with tension and pressure. But every orgasm you have can help keep cortisol levels down – and your spirits up!

Orgasms Were an Old-School Cure-allBack in the late 19th century, doctors used to give orgasms to female patients who’d come down with an illness they called “hysteria.” Treatment included doctors using their fingers to stimulate women until they had a “release” that visibly changed their mood and demeanor. Women who entered doctors’ offices with anxiety, fits and frantic behavior ended up leaving feeling calm, relaxed and in bright spirits – so it made sense that this method was a logical and effective cure.As you can imagine, hysteria became an epidemic with women needing multiple and frequent treatments (well, duh) and soon, doctors created electric stimulators – now known as vibrators – to help them handle the influx of patients. (And to give their hands and fingers a break!)

Orgasms Can Kill Pain!Orgasms provide an analgesic effect similar to over-the-counter pain meds thanks to the release of oxytocin, a hormone that many associate with a blissful feeling. It’s created by the brain and released during childbirth, breast-feeding and sex (among other times, of course) and can help alleviate the pain associated with headaches, menstrual cramps, aching muscles and more. So next time you feel some pain coming on, try supplementing Advil with an orgasm or three!

Orgasms Get Your Blood FlowingYour heart beats faster as you get closer to orgasm, causing blood to flow faster throughout the body so it can get to the necessary areas and heighten your senses in preparation for that big O. But as your face and body flush with that telltale pink glow, some scientists believe that your body is also getting a jumpstart as blood flows extra-fast, detoxifying your system and help aid in digestion and other common bodily functions!

Coming to theaters this weekend is the major motion picture “Hysteria,” a film Starring Maggie Gyllenhaal and John Dancy that delves into the wonderful history of the vibrator and how it came to be the orgasm-inducing pleasure device that we know it as today!

In the late 19th century, countless women started to come down with a medical malady called “hysteria” and its treatment involved a doctor manually stimulating the woman to orgasm. (Crazy, right?)

It wasn’t viewed as a sexual or pleasurable act at the time, of course – women who entered the doctor’s office showing symptoms of hysteria ended up leaving feeling calm, relaxed and even cheerful. So it was only logical to assume that having an orgasmic response was the ideal treatment!

But when doctors’ fingers and wrists grew fatigued, some even experiencing pain, they realized that if the medical community was to continue treating so many female patients while maintaining doctors’ own physical health, they would need to invent a stimulation device that would do it mechanically. And so the vibrator was born!

One of the first vibrators developed was steam powered and created by American physician George Taylor. Many other versions followed, designed by myriad male doctors, and in 1902 the first electric vibrator made for retail sale debuted on the market by the brand Hamilton Beach.

Then women’s lives were changed forever.

Now there are countless versions of the vibrator – some with attachments, some that go inside (aka dildos), some that are worn around the penis (aka cock rings), and other sex toys that are too unique to describe! But all have the same goal – bringing pleasure to the people and helping men, women and couples have better, more satisfying sex!

Feeling like you might be coming down with a case of hysteria? Well The Screaming O has the remedy! Treat yourself right and check out the mini vibes, bullet vibrators, vibrating rings, sex toys for couples, sexual enhancement devices and other intimate accessories from The Screaming O!
